Social Media

Social media has done wonders for the world; Instant communication is now available to “almost” anyone, evening out, in many respects, the ability for people with diverse social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds to effectively communicate on a level playing field.

Unfortunately, with no clear rules or “moral” guidelines, the free ability to communicate has also brought up many problematic issues.

Social media is effectively being used to dispense misinformation on many issues.

Social media is effectively being used to commit fraud.

Social media is effectively being used to lure innocent kids into dubious activity or being used to disseminate pornography.

Many Governments have attempted to enact legislation regarding what is or isn’t “acceptable” to disseminate on social media but I fear that such action will do more to alienate users rather than actually have a noticeable effect on curbing illegal activity.

Then again, considering the number of bogus goods and services offered on certain platforms, I wonder if some of those platforms are more interested in selling paid ad space than they claim to be interested in strengthening rules against the harmful activity.

So, how can Social Media be made safer for kids?

How can Social Media be made safer for consumers?

Can Social media security be enhanced without abridging the rights of free speech and communication?
